These paintings are based on my interest in Dante’s archetypal imagery, and the way it still speaks to us today on a subconscious level. These paintings are based on my interest in Dante’s archetypal imagery, and the way it still speaks to us today on a subconscious level. Rather than focusing on the religious aspect, my paintings explore the motifs and colours from the Divine Comedy to produce an abstract subliminal response to his writing. Working on these during the pandemic made me realise how relevant his journey, from the depths of hell up to his enlightened ecstasy, has felt over the past few years.
